About the WSO
Our Mission
To engage the community by providing accessible, quality musical performances that entertain, educate, and inspire.
Who We Are
The Washington Symphony Orchestra was founded in early 2002 by Marianna resident Dave Owens. Music Director Dave Owens had a vision for an exceptional orchestra that would be supported by the greater Washington community and that would, in return, enhance the quality of life in Washington County.
The WSO’s first rehearsal took place in April 2002 and was attended by 24 musicians. Soon, the orchestra had grown to a full symphony of over 50 musicians, performing pops, classical, and light classical music for the Tri-State’s residents and visitors.
Dr. Yugo Sava Ikach was named WSO Music Director in 2005. His boundless enthusiasm for his art, community, and orchestra family inspire musicians and audiences alike.
The orchestra performs a four-concert annual series at the Olin Fine Arts Center on the Washington & Jefferson College campus. Each concert is performed two to three times. Patrons can purchase single tickets or a season subscription. All of our concerts are family-friendly and accessible. Themes vary every season, and repertoire includes both classical and pop favorites. Children 12 and under and music students can receive free tickets to our concerts. We also offer discounts for seniors and students.
The WSO also performs at various events across the region and offers ensemble booking options for all event sizes.
Education is an important part of the WSO. We offer various education programs for students and are dedicated to improving access to music education in Washington County.
